Cropping For Composition

Holidays pictures can be greatly improved with a little help from photo editing software, here we want to show you how cropping of pictures can give suprising result.

The original picture on the right, though look nice, but the composition is less than perfect. The sky (top) and the beach (bottom) do nothing for the overall picture

By removing the some of the sky from the top and beach from the bottom, as shown on the right, turns the picture into a panorama. The picture now emphasise on the two man fishing with the lovely sunset at the background

The good thing about cropping using photo editing software is, you can always undo your mistake, so try different ways to crop the picture. Try cropping in landscape or portrait to stress on the objective in the picture. You would probably be surprised by the end result

Placement of subject in photo

The subject in your photo should be the interest point, and the story line of your photo should revolve around your subject. One way to involve viewers in your photograph is to guide their eye through the photo, in other world; their eye should start some where in the photograph and travel across it. Avoid putting your subject at centre; this will only quickly kill their interest. Image on the left shows imaginary composition lines that helps placing the subject at "hot spot.

"The subject, the lady, was place at the hot spot. Viewer's eyes are guided from the right to the left side of the photo.
