by impairment of the heat-regulating mechanism of the body. Shivering
diminishes as the body temperature rises. Victims are confused,
uncoordinated and lapse into coma. This is a medical emergency.
It is treated by immediately cooling by removing all clothing, covering
with wetted sheets or towels, fanning to promote by evaporation
and rehydration. |
